Astraseal has just announced record levels of waste recycling for the year 2007-2008. The trade and commercial REHAU fabricator recycled 210 tons of PVC-U, 850 tons of glass and 30 tons of paper and plastic which is a substantial increase on the previous year.
Significantly, it also achieved a 37% year on year reduction in skip costs as a result of its commitment to increasing the recycling of its waste.
Sales and Marketing Manager Zac Nedimovic says that, as well as being environmentally friendly, recycling makes economic sense for the company. He says: “There is a common misconception that being green is an expensive option but we have proved that when operated on a large, commercial scale like this, it can actually save money.
“All of our staff are encouraged to follow our recycling policy and there is now a positive commitment within the team to beat the previous year’s record every time.
“I hope other fabricators will be encouraged by what we have achieved. In the current difficult market conditions, there is a growing risk that environmental concerns will be shifted to one side in the race to remain competitive. We have proved that it is possible to balance the two.”
